We are grateful to Charles Beddington for suggesting an attribution to Giacomo Guardi on the basis of photographs. Giacomo was the son of Francesco Guardi (1712-1793), and known for his skillfully rendered smaller views of Venice. Given their compact size, Giacomo's works were likely souvenirs for travelers who wanted to immortalize their stay in Venice.
