Private collection, UK, since at least the mid-19th century;

Whence sold, London, Sotheby's, 5 July 2012, lot 220, where acquired by the present owners.

According to Arnold Houbraken, Spilberg became a pupil of Govaert Flinck in 1640 in Amsterdam. It is possible that the pendant to the present lot is the Portrait of a Woman in Fantasy Costume (78 x 64 cm.) which was sold online at Sotheby's, 19 September 2019, lot 4, for £20,000.1

We are grateful to Frits Duparc who endorses the attribution to Spilberg, following inspection of digital images.
