Condition Report

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals fine lines of retouching scattered in the sky, mostly to disguise the appearance of craquelure, and few, small retouchings in the foreground, including to a superficial horizontal scratch in the foliage to the left of the main group of figures. There is more concentrated retouching to a repaired Z-shaped tear in the sky, centre right, approx. 18cm. long; to a restored damage in one of the clouds, centre right, approx. 4x5cm., and to another in the centre of the horizon, approx. 5x3cm. The painting is in overall good condition and ready to hang in its current state.
