partially gilt painted enamel on copper, with a copper gilt mount and within a later wood frame

enamel: 22.5 by 20cm., 8 7/8 by 7 7/8 in.

Overall the condition of the enamel is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor stable craquelure to the top of the plaque (to the sky); and at the bottom left corner. There are three very small patches of possible retouching: to the upper left corner; to the centre of the relief above the soldiers on the battlement; and to the sky above the spire next to the dome of the temple of Minerva. However, there were no restorations visible to the cataloguer under UV light.


The gilding is generally in very good condition. There are some small areas of mild ghosting to the gilding including to the armour details at Corebus’ legs.


The reverse of the plaque: There is minor stable craquelure to the counter-enamel, consistent with the material. There are a few very minor greenish residues to the reverse and top edge.
