Condition Report

The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is dirty with a slightly discoloured varnish. There is bitumenisation throughout the painted surface, notably in the dark pigments. There is a slight bulge in the canvas along the left margin, as well as a few surface scuff and scratch marks, two with some associated paint loss, in the upper left and right corners (visible in the illustration). There are also older, small paint losses, which are visible in the girls' white dresses. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick, opqaue varnish, which impedes the inspection of restoration. However, it is possible to see retouchings in the form of fine lines, along the network of craquelure in the sky, background (centre left), and in some small spots in the faces of the central and right-hand girl. In overall fair condition.
