The panel is uncradled, flat and stable, and formed of two horizontal planks. The paint surface is clean, with a very slightly discoloured varnish. There are very fine horizontal lines of retouching along the wood grain, scattered in the sky. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms this and further reveals the extent of retouching in the sky, which also comprises more concentrated patches, the largest of which measures 3 x 1 cm. in the clouds, centre right, and a horizontal band, upper right, 6 x 1 cm. It is more difficult to discern intervention underneath the streaky varnish in the main composition, but there does appear to be retouching, comprised mainly of fine, horizontal lines scattered along the wood grain, most notably in the roof of the house, centre left, and in the rocks of the bank, centre right. The painting presents well in its current state and is in overall fairly good condition.
