framed: 127 x 161.3 cm.; 50 x 63 1/2 in.

Gonzalo María de Ulloa and Ortega-Montañés, 9th Count of Adanero (1833-82);
Thence by inheritance to his brother, Don José María de Ulloa y Ortega-Montañés, 8th Marquis of Castro-Serna (1839-1905);
Thence by descent to the previous owners.
Madrid, Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos, no. 81 (lent by Adanero; according to a label on the reverse).

This painting may be compared to Dandini's Hagar and Sarah (private collection, Florence)1 and Esther fainting (location unknown),2 in which the figures of Sarah and one of Esther's attendants bear a strong resemblance to the female figure, here.
