Description

A BOUQUET OF FOSSILIZED SAINT-JACQUES SHELLS

Gigantopectens restitutensis

Miocene

Lacoste Quarry, Vaucluse, France

32 cm tall, on a custom base.

Fossilized scallops, also known as Saint-Jacques shells, are found in the carbonate platforms of the Miocene epoch. The removal of this specimen from the surrounding rock represents handiwork of the highest caliber. This delicate specimen takes on the appearance of a bouquet of white flowers, emerging from the limestone with a floral elegance.
