Mohammad Ali Talpur is a contemporary Pakistani artist best known for his minimalist drawings. Born in Hyderabad, Pakistan, Talpur did his Bachelor’s in Fine Art from the National College of Arts, Lahore, where he now teaches. Talpur has many accolades to his name including the M.D. Taseer Scholarship, the Khoj International Public Art Residency in Delhi, and the Vasl Artist’s Residency and exhibition. His works have been exhibited in national and international art venues including the Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon; Mohatta Palace Museum, Karachi, XVA gallery, Dubai; Finsbury Park, England as well as arts fairs in Shanghai, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Speaking of his current minimalist works – a transition from his earlier colorful visuals, Talpur has stated ‘… I have developed a kind of color phobia. For example, red has a history and so does green, and putting these colors on a surface would lead to a plethora of meanings. But a plain, black mark on white surface is more essential and closer to the primary idea. There is nothing extraneous about it. It is what remains after the extra concerns have been filtered.’ (The artist in Conversation with DA Rizvi, ArtNow: Contemporary Art of Pakistan, http://www.artnowpakistan.com/interview-mohammad-ali-talpur/)
