The Fingerprint of the Universe

In the 1990s, Hsiao Chin had a spiritual awakening, and in finding a life philosophy, this led to his landmark Il giardino eterno series. In his abstract compositions, he portrayed a resplendent transcendental realm. While the series represents a breakthrough in subjective experience, it shares an objective theoretical origin with "the spirit of contemplation," which he advocated with Movimento Punto in the 1960s. According to the Hsiao Chin International Art Foundation, Hsiao painted eighteen massive works on specially-made canvases measuring 110 x 250 cm. The largest and best Il giardino eterno paintings were painted on these canvases. Nine of these works exhibited at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung, the China Art Museum in Shanghai, the Tsz Shan Monastery in Hong Kong, and the Sotheby's Hong Kong Gallery, confirming the high value Hsiao placed in these paintings, as he only chose to exhibit them at important venues. In 2016, Hsiao Chin held a major solo exhibition in Hong Kong entitled "Endless Energy." In the years that followed, he received significant international attention, and he was invited to show at museums around the world, including institutions in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Paris, and even Latvia. Volare sopra il giardino eterno-19 (Lot 1035) is significant because it was the first work to greet viewers in that landmark 2016 Hong Kong exhibition. No similar piece has ever appeared at international auction. This October sale will be the first time this work has been offered at auction, presenting collectors with a rare opportunity.

九〇年代，蕭勤通過禪悟獲得生命哲學之啓迪，開創標誌性的「永久的花園」系列，以抽象構成呈現繽紛絢麗的超驗之境，與藝術家六〇年代「龐圖運動」時期主張的「靜觀精神」在客觀理論層面一脈相承，於主觀體驗方面更有所突破。按蕭勤國際文化藝術基金會，藝術家曾以特別訂製的110 x 250公分畫布，創作出十八幅巨幅作品，乃「永久的花園」主題最為宏大精彩的作品序列，當中九幅曾經在台中台灣美術館、上海中華藝術宮、香港慈山寺、香港蘇富比藝術空間展出，足見藝術家對此重視有加，只選擇重要場合展出。2016年，蕭勤在香港舉行「無盡能量」大型個展，此後數年急迅喚起國際關注，從香港、上海、高雄、巴黎以至拉脫維亞，全球博物館展覽邀接連不斷，《飛越永久的花園—19》（拍品編號1035）在此次里程碑式展覽作為門戶作品登場，更是意義非凡。本作色彩若幻彩虹霞，仙境銀河般的構圖更若宇宙指紋，隱喻造化巨大而神奇的力量；畫面噴薄而生的黃金彩點，更是藝術家罕見運用的金屬顏料，同類型在作品在國際拍場從未曝光，如今本作首度現身，機遇誠為難得。
