Captured in wondrous detail and spirit, Naga Warrior is an excellent example of an ethnographic portrait. Based on a black and white photograph that appeared in H.N.C. Stevenson’s The Hill Peoples of Burma: Burma Pamphlets No. 6, published in 1944. Ohn Lwin reinterprets the photograph in colour, adding lively brushwork to delineate the ornate necklace around the warrior’s neck and his headdress.
