The present lot’s movement was finished by the Non-Magnetic Watch Company, which was founded by Charles Ward. Ward’s firm made watches based around anti-magnetic components including, first and foremost, anti-magnetic palladium balance springs invented by C. A. Paillard. From the founding of the company in 1886, the firm showed an interest in producing complicated watches and it is possible that the present movement may have been produced for exhibition, perhaps at either the 1889 St Louis Exposition or 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago - both of these exhibitions included stands for the Non-Magnetic Watch Co.
