Born in 1940, To Ngoc Thanh was born the son of the distinguished artist To Ngoc Van (1906-1954), a renowned artist graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts de l'Indochine. To Ngoc Thanh was began his artistic training under his father at the tender age of 4 and worked as an assistant in a lacquer workshop before he turned 10. His work often captures the beautiful landscapes of the Vietnam and shows his particular interest in the unique tribal cultures native to Sa Pa in North-west Vietnam as well as the charming vignettes of his hometown, Hanoi.
