Journey through France: A Private Collection of Post-Impressionist Paintings

JEAN DUFY

(1888 - 1964)

CHASSE À COURRE

Signed Jean Dufy (lower left)

Oil on canvas

13 by 16¼ in. (33 by 41.2 cm)

Framed: 21 by 24 in. (53.3 by 61 cm)

Painted circa 1956-57.

The canvas is unlined. The canvas is undulating throughout. There is some minor pigment shrinkage to the dark blue and green pigments of forest in the upper center of the composition, and to the brown pigments of the boots of the four riders in the foreground. There is some minor frame abrasion along the perimeter and some associated remnants of gold gilding left by a prior frame. Under UV inspection, some original pigments fluoresce but there is no retouching visible. The work is in overall very good condition.
