It has not been possible to examine the work entirely unframed. Examination under UV light reveals no evidence of retouching. There is some paint shrinkage to the black pigment (as visible in the catalogue illustration). There are a few surface scratches and some minor abrasion in places, notably to the centre of the lower edge and to the upper right quadrant. This work is in overall good condition.
