It has not been possible to examine the work entirely unframed. The canvas is not lined and a bit wavy. There is a milky varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating. However examination under UV light appears to reveal areas of retouching notably in the blue checkerboard on the left part of the composition, in the dark diagonal shape in the upper right quadrant and towards the red shape towards to the centre of the right edge. There are additional spots of retouching along the extreme edges. There are a few spots of paint losses in places notably along the upper edge. There are two indents, one associated with a tear (approx. 1cm wide) and flecks of paint losses located approx. 35cm from the lower edge and 14cm from the right edge, and another to the lower part of the left edge, associated with small cracks and dots of paint losses. There are some lines of craquelure in places, most predominately to the white pigment and in the lower corners. There is some paint shrinkage in places, notably towards the right part of the upper edge. This work is in overall fair and stable condition.
