HENRI FANTIN-LATOUR

1836 - 1904

ROSES DANS UN VASE EN PORCELAINE BLANCHE

Signed Fantin and dated 71 (upper left)

Oil on canvas mounted on panel

13⅛ by 11⅝ in. (33.3 by 29.5 cm)

Framed: 21 by 19½ in. (53.3 by 49.5 cm)

Painted in 1871.

This painting will be included in the catalogue raisonné of Fantin-Latour’s paintings and pastels by Galerie Brame & Lorenceau now in preparation.

The work is executed on canvas which has been mounted to panel. The panel is sound. There is a thin web of hairline craquelure throughout the composition. Under UV light, there are scattered strokes of inpainting in the background, in the vase, and in the darker pigments of the floral bouquet. There are strokes of inpainting along all four edges, likely to address previous abrasion. The work is in good condition.
