The movement is in working condition at the time of cataloguing. The minute repeating is in phase and chimes with a great tone and clarity. The enamel dial is nice and intact. The watch is in excellent overall condition with only extremely minor signs of wear to the case. It is also interesting to note that the watch bears movement number ending with 002, indicating that this is the second reference 3939 created for commercial distribution. The hallmarks are very crisp under the lugs and between lugs at 6 o'clock.
Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts.

Considered as one of Patek Philippe’s greatest grand complications, the reference 3939 gives the word “elegance” a brand new definition. Equipped within the watch are two of the most coveted complications, consisting of a magnificently delicate tourbillon and an astoundingly sophisticated minute repeater that chimes with a clear resonance tone. Its white enamel dial is nice and intact, finished with absolute perfection and offered in pristine condition.
