The Ref.1019 ‘Milgauss’ is one of the most distinctive of all vintage Rolex watches. First introduced in the early 1960s, with its completely re-designed case and dial, the 1019 represented a dramatic departure from the styling of its 6541 and 6543 predecessors. Primarily aimed at scientists and engineers, the Milgauss was designed to be used by those working in areas where exposure to strong magnetic fields was unavoidable. The watch was guaranteed to resist magnetic fields up to 1,000 oersted. Indeed, the word Milgauss means 1,000 gauss (gauss being a measurement of magnetic induction).
