A MASSIVE 'HUANGHUALI'-VENEERED SQUARE-CORNER COMPOUND CABINET
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
of rectangular form, comprising a smaller top cabinet resting on a larger bottom one, both of standard miter, mortise, tenon, tongue-and-grooved flush floating-panel construction with four square uprights comprising the frame and the multi-panel doors centered by removable stiles, the side panels on both the top and bottom cabinets similarly constructed, below the doors of the main cabinet a decoratively-carved shaped apron, the interior of the top cabinet with one removable shelf, the bottom with two shelves and two short drawers, the baitong circular hinges and escutcheon plates surface-mounted, the shelves, drawer interiors, back and top panels soft wood (2)

Both upper and lower cabinets with numerous mortise patches indicating the use of repurposed timber in the construction of the cabinet. There are long strips added to several of the panels both vertically and horizontally. The interior shelves and transverse stretchers appear to be later replacements. There is some splitting to back panels, wear and minor repairs.
