the lower bulb painted with a narrative scene from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, depicting Liu Bei riding on the Dilu horse jumping over the Tanxi (Tan Brook), chased by Cai Mao and an attendant solider on the river bank, with Zhao Yun arriving behind attempting to rescue Liu Bei, the upper bulb with a reclining scholar and an attendant in a landscape, all below a wide band of stylized tulip sprays around the neck
