"Utópica first began representing the work of Alejandro Chaskielberg with this particular series, Pixels, which for the photographer ‘is about the great modern vice of being permanently connected to the network.’ At first, Utópica was dedicated to the research and exhibiting of Brazilian Modern photography, focusing on renowned established photographers. Now, the gallery also has started to represent the work of younger artists. Alejandro Chaskielberg, with his performative images of people interacting with their cell phones, puts the viewer face to face with one of the most common and yet somewhat disturbing aspects of modern life, our relationship with the digital world and the new reality arising from this direct and constant contact. The question of whether we live a second life online and if sometimes that life is more dynamic than our reality is an intriguing one. In his Pixels images, each person chooses a color to light up their faces. A vibrant multicolor photograph, it is the sum of many dots of color. In this way, the individual merges into the diverse, symbolic of the multiplicity of our communities. Pixels is a project that joins human with nature and technology to create pointillist tableaus of the digital era - an astonishingly precise depiction of our times." - Marcella Brandimarti
