This Sheet is Given Away As a Supplement to the Base Ball Players' Book of Reference. [New York, ca. 1866–1876]
Lithographed advertising poster (21 3/8 x 16 5/8 in.; 543 x 422 mm) hand- and stencil-colored; stained, fold separation, chipped at top with tear into image, shaved at bottom costing a few figure numbers. The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot.
Vibrant color lithograph depicting early baseball uniforms. A scarce promotional poster, evidently produced by a sporting-goods manufacturer to be given away with copies of Henry Chadwick's The Base Ball Players' Book of Reference or similar work. The sheet illustrates four jerseys, as well as a great variety of caps, pennants, and belts representing such early baseball clubs as Philadelphia Athletics, Cleveland's Forest City, and XLCR of Jersey City.
