(AMERICAN REVOLUTION)
Simsbury Bridge Lottery Tickets. [Connecticut: 1781]
1 uncut sheet (15 7/8 x 4 in.; 405 x 100 mm). Letterpress printed, manuscript numeration, each ticket signed by Dudley Pettibone; lightly soiled. The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot.
A sheet of uncut Revolutionary War lottery tickets, an unusual survival in original condition.
In 1781, the bridge that spanned Connecticut's Framington River was swept away by a freshet. A lottery was organized to help fund the building of a new bridge, and though the tickets were issued, the drawing was never actually held.
