Georgia Responds to the Haitian Slave Revolt

In its Constitutional Convention of 1798, Georgia forbids the import of slaves from foreign nations (see Article III, sec. 12), most likely as a response to the recent revolt of slaves in Haiti and fears of a similar insurrection being brought from the Indies. Of course, those emigrating to Georgia from other states were not proscribed from bringing slaves. Each title is rare at auction.
