Two letters signed:


i) Letter signed "George Monck", to Roger Boyle, Lord Broghill (later 1st Earl of Orrery), AN IMPORTANT LETTER DISCUSSING THE GOVERNMENT OF BRITAIN AND IRELAND, WRITTEN DURING MONCK'S MARCH ON LONDON, acknowledging Broghill's importance in governing Ireland ("...I perceive ... how much the parliament and that poore Nation have bin engaged to your Lordshipps Councell & Conduct..."), especially for putting the army into "honest & sober hands", assuring Broghill that he will support his appointment as one of the new Commissioners for the Civil Government of Ireland, discussing political and military affairs in Ireland and his optimism that the constitutional crisis engulfing Britain will soon be resolved ("...The Parliament is in a good way of settlement and like to bring things to a good issue..."), 2 pages, folio, Dunstable, [Hertfordshire,] 27 January 1659 [i.e. 1660], integral address leaf, remains of red wax seal impression, later notes on provenance, framed and glazed (355 x 472mm), neat repairs to seal tear and folds

ii) Letter signed "Albemarle", to Sir William Compton (former member of the Sealed Knot) as Master of the Ordnance, ordering the delivery of ten barrels of gunpowder and "a double proportion of matches" to his regiment (the Coldstream Guards), 1 page, folio, the Cockpit, [Whitehall,] 12 August 1662, mounted, framed and glazed (375 x 270mm)
