8vo (224 x 135mm.), FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, earlier textual state with p.213 mispaginated p.113, 16 etched illustrations by Hablot K. Browne "Phiz" including frontispiece and pictorial title-page, bound in at the end are a number of original wrappers and advertisements for the first edition in parts, later half brown morocco gilt by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, cloth slipcase, some occasional light spotting to plates
A Tale of Two Cities was the last of Dickens' works to be illustrated by Hablot K. Browne "Phiz". Bound in this copy are upper wrappers to parts 5, 6 and 7, lower wrappers to parts 4 and 6, advertisement to all parts except part 3. Also bound in is a 16mo., 4pp. pamphlet 'Reminiscences of Scottish Life by E.B. Ramsay Fourth edition, Edinburgh, Edmonston and Douglas 1859' not called for by Hatton and Cleaver.
