"Jack-in-the-Pulpit" Vase

circa 1900-1903

favrile glass

engraved L.C.T./Y4993

17 3/8 in. (44.1 cm) high

9 1/2 in. (24.1 cm) diameter of fan

Overall in excellent condition. When viewed firsthand the vase displays a bright yellow and pale orange coloration with lavender, magenta and turquoise iridescence decorating the deeply ruffled fan. The form of the vase is accented by subtle ribbing ascending from the foot up the entire height of the vase and appearing more pronounced on the reverse side of the fan. The ribbing adds a wonderful sense of dimension and elegant visual interest to the work. The glass with scattered minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions and surface irregularities inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The glass surface with some occasional minor and faint surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The interior of the vase with some surface soiling and minor trapped debris in the stem and foot, which is typical for the form. The underside of the foot with a few paper labels applied by a previous owner which could be easily removed. An exuberant example of the flowerform series with strong iridescence and elegant proportions.
