LA PENDULE DE PROFIL. [PARIS, 1964]
Cardboard pliage (or "pop-up") on flat white cardboard sheet (8 5/8 x 11 in.; 221 x 279 mm).
Marcel Duchamp. La Pendule de profil. [Paris, 1964]
"To be destroyed, if so desired."Hors commerce copy E of The Clock in Profile, initialed by Duchamp and inscribed by him "a détruire ad lib". The artist has also drawn an arrow from his inscription to a small bit of soiling on the pliage.
La Pendule de Profil was created to accompany Robert Lebel's La Double Vue (see previous lot). All 111 copies included the pliage, but copies 2–11 included a second pliage "to be destroyed, if so desired." The present "pop-up" is presumably from an hors commerce series not mentioned specifically in Schwarz.
