5 titles in 6 volumes, 8vo. Uniformly bound in original burgundy cloth, covers and spines gilt-lettered; very minor discoloration to the heads of spines of books 3 and 4, upper joint of book 1 just starting, minor toning to front free endpaper, book 5 and book 1 are second and third printings, respectively, of the first edition, and the remainder are first printings, with book 2 the rare second binding variant.

FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY:

“Inscribed by Winston S. Churchill 1929 For Edward D. Lyman” in ink on the half-title of The Aftermath.

Churchill's highly subjective history of the First World War was published in five installments (5 books in six volumes), and was written over eight years. Initial volumes were first published in the U.S. (by a matter of days), making the American edition the true first edition.

Lyman was a distinguished Hollywood entertainment industry attorney. Winston Churchill’s historic 1929 tour of the U.S. in the company of his brother Jack, his nephew Johnny and his son Randolph, coincided with the publication of The Aftermath in America. Churchill signed this copy in Hollywood during an extended stay in September.
