Belt hooks naturalistically carved with real animal heads are rare. Compare a belt hook in the form of a ram sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 1st June 2015, lot 307, from the Zidongtang collection. Compare also another ram-head belt hook from the Qing court collection and preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum.
