The present work is a study for A Social History of the State of Indiana, Thomas Hart Benton’s twenty two panel mural depicting the cultural and industrial history of Indiana. The Indiana Department of Conservation commissioned Benton to create the mural for the state’s exhibition at the 1933 “A Century of Progress International Exposition” in Chicago. The panels now reside at the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana
