Painted at Kintore in 1997 for Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs, Northern Territory
Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne
Estate of David Larwill
Pinta Pinta (meaning butterfly in the Pintupi language) Tjapanangka painted occasionally for Papunya Tula Artists from the mid 1970s, though really devoted himself to his art towards the very end of his life. The paintings he produced in his twilight years depict the classical Pintupi iconography of the travels of the Tingari ancestors, painted in a thickly applied, monochromatic palette. These strong graphic paintings immediately became a hit with collectors and he was rewarded with two solo exhibitions at Alcaston Gallery in Melbourne, where David Larwill acquired this work.
