A boîte-à-miniatures with three-colour gold mounts


oval, in 18th century taste, inset with lively gouache miniatures on paper, the one on the lid representing connoisseurs inspecting antique ruins, after Hubert Robert (fig. 1), on the sides with fishermen and port subjects, in the manner of Vernet, the base with a view of Tivoli after a follower of Hubert Robert (fig. 2), cagework mounts chased with husks and acanthus, gold lining, French prestige marks including maker's mark of Mathieu Coiny, charge, discharge and export marks of Julien Alaterre and date letter F for 1769/70
