Ansel Adams

1902 - 1984

'Trees and Cliffs, Eagle Peak, Winter, Yosemite Valley, CA' (vertical)

gelatin silver print, flush-mounted to Flaxon illustration board, with the 'Photograph by Ansel Adams' stamp, signed by Virginia Best Adams and titled and dated by Jeanne Adams in pencil, and a Michael and Jeanne Adams collection stamp on the reverse, framed, circa 1935; accompanied by a certificate of provenance, signed by Michael and Jeanne Adams (2)

image: 8 1/2 by 6 1/8 in. (21.6 by 15.6 cm.)

frame: 21 3/4 by 17 3/4 in. (55.2 by 45.1 cm.)

This print, on paper with a surface sheen and flush-mounted to Flaxon illustration board, is in generally excellent condition. It is trimmed to the image and there are occasional tiny chips in the emulsion at the edges. Visible only under close examination in raking light are a few deposits of original retouching and two tiny, faint impressions in the sky. The mount is stained and there are adhesive remnants, paper adhesions and abrasions throughout.

The reverse is soiled. The following is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse: 'MA#0089'; '#2036'; 'AA?1854'; and 'D-43.'

When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
