1902 - 1984

'Oak Tree, Snowstorm, Yosemite National Park, California'

gelatin silver print, mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, the photographer's Carmel studio stamp, titled and dated in ink, on the reverse, framed, an Andrew Smith Gallery, Santa Fe, label on the reverse, 1948, printed in 1980

image: 19 5/8 by 15 1/2 in. (49.8 by 39.4 cm.)

frame: 35 1/2 by 29 3/8 in. (90.2 by 74.6 cm.)

This print is in generally excellent condition. There are some very subtle scuffs on the left side visible only under very close examination in raking light.

Although Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career, the Carmel studio stamp on the reverse of the present mount is not included. The stamp, similar to BMFA 11, but with the zip code '93923,' is dated with both the negative and printing dates (in this case, 1948 and 1980, respectively) in an unidentified hand in ink.
