Overall in very good condition. This superb piece displays Dunand’s signature use of eggshell against a stunning tomato red lacquer background. The lacquer presents with some minor and expected signs of gentle handling and age consistent with the natural evolution of the medium. The red lacquer surfaces present with great variety in color, ranging from dark pink to bright red. The rim with irregular black lacquer application partially revealing the red lacquer undersurface. The underside of the vase is lacquered in black and presents with light surface scratches and scuffing to the outside, consistent with gentle use and handling. The eggshell pieces retain their original brightness and present with rich and textural tones that range from white and off-white to burnt sienna as pictured in the catalogue photography. This piece has been inspected under blacklight and shows no apparent evidence of prior restoration. A superb large-scaled work displaying Dunand’s mastery in the lacquer and eggshell technique.
