Overall in very good condition. The present lot is a testament to Rousseau’s mastery at combining precious woods and shagreen. The wooden surfaces are in good overall condition and present with stable and minor age cracks consistent with the natural evolution of the wood, as well as surface scratches, abrasions and general edge wear throughout. The palmwood appears to have been sensitively refinished at some point in the history of the piece and shows evidence of prior restorations throughout, which include professionally conserved scattered areas of inpainting and filling to the wood to protect the integrity of the piece. The shagreen is overall in very good condition and stable. The tabletop presents with contrasting tones of light green and ivory, while the base is decorated with yellow shagreen triangular panels. The shagreen elements on the tabletop with very light surface residue concentrated to the recessed areas of the shagreen as well as subtle variations in color, all consistent with age and gentle use. One shagreen panel on the base displays some very minor lifting towards the outer age but is stable overall. The ivory inlays that adorn the tabletop have recently been professionally replaced with ivorine by a conservator, in a manner that is identical to the original work.
