Overall in very good condition. This elegant work by Rateau comprises superb decorative details such as raised butterflies on the corners of the frame as well as carved details on each foot. The gilt wood surfaces have recently been repatinated and stabilized by a professional conservator in a manner faithful to their original appearance, and the gilding has been touched up in localized areas. The gilding with some occasional minor wear and associated minute surface losses. The gilt wood surfaces present with scattered light surface scratches and abrasions, some occasional minor instances of surface crackling, and some occasional subtle discolorations consistent with age and use. The red primer under the gilding is partially visible throughout and concentrated to the feet. The piece has recently been professionally reupholstered with an off-white bouclé fabric in excellent condition. The tassels have been replaced at some point in the history of the piece in a manner that is consistent with the original design.
