Overall in very good condition. This magnificent piece by André Groult is a testament to the cabinetmaker’s mastery and artistic use of shagreen on a large-scale. The bed is made up of four elements (one headboard, one footboard and two sides) which can be easily assembled with four provided metal bolts. The shagreen surfaces are in remarkably well-preserved and stable condition and present with variegated hues and colors when seen in person, which range from off-white to dark brown with red undertones. The shagreen with light surface scratches, very minor and occasional abrasions to the surfaces concentrated to the edges, and scattered instances of very minor discoloration. The recessed areas with very minimal soiling which is not visually distracting and consistent with age. The wooden surfaces present with light surface scratches throughout and occasional abrasions and indentations to the wood concentrated to the edges. One foot with spotty and very minimal white and red house paint marks concentrated to one side. The inside of the bed frame with more pronounced instances of wear, namely minor losses to the wood veneer, stable hairlines, and scratches, not visible when a mattress is installed.
