"The trio portraits are a theme meticulously guarded and cherished by Iyem within his oeuvre. The three graces of mythology who transform the judgement of Paris to the screams of Troy roam through the paintings of Botticelli and Rubens to reach the modern day while for Iyem, these female portraits also represent the wholesomeness of the Anatolian woman condensed into a representation of three figures, as if to imbue these graces with a certain irony. The women depicted in duos, trios or in more crowded compositions would be looking at different directions adding another level of depth to a two dimensional canvas, while brimming with further meaning and affluence."
