Pococke travelled in the eastern Mediterranean from 1737 to 1740. Volume 1 of this important and popular work is devoted to Egypt; volume 2 to Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Cyprus, Crete, the Greek islands, Asia Minor, Thrace, Greece and other parts of Europe.
