Hendrick was born in Amsterdam and studied under his father Juriaen van Streeck, who was also a painter. He later became a student of Emmanuel de Witte and, like his master, painted mainly church interiors. Hendrick mastered this genre so well that it was noted that his paintings were hard to tell apart from De Witte's.
