folio (317 x 205mm.), title within engraved border, with blank leaf A3, 18 double-page and 6 single engravings (numbered A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2, E1, E2, H, I, L, M, N, O, Q, R, S, T, V, X, Y, and the last unnumbered), contemporary limp vellum gilt with armorial stamped in black, lacking 4 plates, some leaves frayed, new pastedowns, lacking two pairs of silk ties; sold not subject to return
This was first printed in Paris in 1601; this second edition, issued in both French and German simultaneously, has reduced copies of the plates by Thomas de Leu.

PROVENANCE:
Richard Towneley (1566-1628), of Towneley Hall, Lancashire, arms on binding dated 1603 with the motto "Tenez le Vray", and his identifier and shelfmark 12 1/2 16 and H16 at head of title-page, but not found in the June 1883 Sotheby's sale catalogue of the Towneley library; purchased from Librairie Montgenet, Geneva, 14 October 1938, 70 CHF
