First editions of two military handbooks, comprising:
i. Avertimenti militari. Modena: Giovanni Maria Verdi, 1600, 4to (205 x 146mm.), woodcut armorial on title-page and on d2v, woodcut initials and headpieces, woodcut printer's device at end, contemporary vellum
ii. Parte prima delle rassegne et modo per essercitare fanteria [all published]. Modena: Giuliano Cassioni, 1613, 4to (194 x 143mm.), woodcut armorial on title-page, woodcut portrait of the author on verso of title-page, 12 (of 13) folding letterpress or woodcut plates, contemporary vellum-backed carta rustica, a few manuscript notes at beginning and end (those at end dated 1662-1663), lacking figure 16, one folding plate repaired

Pellicciari was a professional soldier who had fought in Flanders and France. He later worked for Cesare d'Este (the dedicatee of the first work) and Cosimo II de' Medici (the dedicatee of the second). For a later edition of the first work (now dedicated to Lodovico Negroni), see lot 262.
