folio (357 x 227mm.), engraved title-page, 45 engraved plates (with numbering indicating that they come from a larger set), 20 pages with engravings by Parrocel (mostly of horses) cut out and pasted in, later half roan; sold as a collection of plates not subject to return
The artist Parrocel (1688-1752) joined the cavalry as a young man and despite a short active career he became known for his depictions of battles. He also provided the illustrations for La Guerinière's L'école de cavalerie.
