Standing Orders 10th Regiment P[rince of] W[ales] O[wn] Light Dragoons. 1795-1797

manuscript in English, in 33 sections, with orders on subjects including the duties of various ranks, discipline, parade, and treatment of horses, apparently a working manuscript with scattered revisions and some later entries, c.104 pages, plus blanks, ownership inscription ("Col. Cartwright") on front endpapers, 8vo (188 x 120mm.), reversed calf, morocco gilt lettering piece on upper cover, rubbed with some loss at foot of spine, some staining to outer leaves

"It having for a long time been evident ... that the PWO Light Dragoons might derive considerable advantage from having a set of fix'd regulations ... Lt Col Cartwright has judged it adviseable [sic] to throw together the following Orders...".

The 10th Light Dragoons (Hussars) had George, Prince of Wales, as its regimental colonel and as a result was one of the most fashionable regiments in the army. William Cartwright was the commanding officer from 1793 to 1802.
