Annetta Milling (1931-2014); thence by descent to the present owner

As with the previous lot, the present work is a fine copy after a Turner watercolour which is now housed in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Turner’s work dates to circa 1826-30 and was engraved in 1832, along with twenty-one other views of the River Loire, for Charles Heath’s publication: Turner’s Annual Tour: ‘Wanderings by the Loire.’1

John Ruskin owned Turner’s watercolour of this subject between 1858 and 1861 and the creator of the present sheet may have operated within Ruskin’s circle. For further information on Ruskin’s pupils please see the previous lot. For information on Annetta Milling, please see lot 38.
