This pair of landscapes are attributed to Robert Freebairn, a landscapist thought to be of Scottish descent and is said to have trained with the fatehr of British landscape painting, the great Richard Wilson RA (1417-1782). Freebairn is known to have travelled through Italy throughout the late 1780s; he returned to England in 1791 with a storehouse of material, on which he drew during the rest of his life.
