The arms are probably those of Phelips of Montacute, co. Somerset, an Elizabethan house now part of the National Trust.
An identical pair of jugs by the same maker made in 1703 bearing the arms of Marlborough were presented to Sir Winston Churchill on his retirement as Prime Minister.
